Like ripping off a band-aid

Apr 05, 2005 02:18

Your eyes do not deceive you. This really is me updating for the first time in three weeks. :P I figured it was about time I adopted a semi-enthusiastic attitude to post-grad research and dove head-first into it. I have to say, getting it's not as godawful as I thought it would be - like ripping off a band-aid! :D Now I wish I hadn't tried to peel it off slowly this past month as it may have saved me a whole lot of unecessary squirmage. At least none of that matters now that I finally have a supervisor. And an awesome one at that! I sat in on her Adolescent Fiction and Magic Realism lectures in second year and recalled how efficient and personable she seemed. I wasn't sure if she still taught on the Melbourne campus anymore since I haven't seen her around in years. It turns out she transferred to Geelong for a bit and returned only recently. I was lucky enough to find that she hadn't taken on any other post-grad students for this year. Knowing that her previous students all achieved First Class Honours is most encouraging too. :D She's young (about 28) and I think that's part of the reason why I always enjoyed her lectures - she's not so far removed from what she teaches. But more importantly, she really knows her stuff. She's so driven and passionate about reading and writing. So hopefully some of that will rub off on me. It's going to be a challenging six months herein. But I'm feeling a heck of a lot better knowing I have a mentor to offer me advice and guidance along the way. :)

Aside from the studious stuff (and of notable mention) I've also been on quests to track down iPod accessories and a pair of jeans - to replace the old favourites that ripped across my behind while crouching to feed Georgie. I put it down to two year's wear and tear, but Schmo decided it was obviously because I finally gotten too fat for them. My weight hasn't changed. It rarely fluctuates. And they weren't even my tightest pair. But whatever. It was funny. :P So, I must have tried on thirty pairs before I found the ones I liked. The wide leg styles are all the rage at the moment. But I have this thing where I need to feel like my jeans are clinging to me. Not to the point of being ridiculously tight, but fitted is preferable. Now I have a brand new pair of low ride Lee jeans. They're a soft blue stone wash and fit like a glove. :D I also bought a purple iSkin to protect my iPod from further scratches. It glows in the dark which is kinda cool! No luck tracking down a new pair of earphones yet though. The Apple shops only have in-ear ones and Schmo says I'm better off getting the kind with a control attached if I'm going to fork out that much for them. Apparently Myer (where he works) had a sale on them, but his store had sold out. I'll have to check the Chapel Street store and if they're out too, I'll try and hold out for another Myer sale so I can get that discount - with Schmo's employee discount on top of it. ;)

I'm meeting a friend in the city at 10:30 tomorrow so I should really get some sleep soon. :O I'll be making a huge effort to catch up on comments and entries tomorrow though. I'd hate for any of you to think I've been ignoring you. While my comments have been scarce, know that I'm still reading every entry and all of the comments you leave me. <3 That said, I'm still going to be making some serious journal rounds tomorrow. ;)

As a result of my LJ neglect, I missed my journal's first birthday on March 28th. :O Since I failed to commemorate it on the day, I've decided to make up for it with a bit of meme spammage. Here comes the first of multiple meme postings. You have been warned! ;P
