Artist's Note: This was done for Renji's birthday, 31st August. I finished it on the 1st and was about to post it when my computer crashed. so here i am, posting it AT LONG FUCKING LAST! *stabs computer* *ahem* anyway, Shuuhei and Izuru appear briefly.. It's more Renji/Byakuya oriented. sigh I also realize that i drew Byakuya's hair wrongly in his front view pic.. But i can't be buggered to change it. Just take it as him wearing his curlers differently, k? -A-

It is the night of Renji's birthday and he had managed to get away from work, even though there was still quite a lot to do.
When he had left the office(even though it was really late when he did), Byakuya was still working. Renji thought that with Byakuya being swamped with so much work, he probably did not even know what day of the week it was, so he cut his captain some slack and did not complain about being let off so late.

Shuuhei: Woo~ Happy birthday, Abarai!
Renji: I think it's past midnight already! Birthday's over!
Kira: *too high*

The three start walking(though it was probably more like staggering) away from the teahouse, swaying happily from too much drinking.
Shuuhei: As long as it's not day yet, it's still your birthday! We should do this more often! Who's birthday is up next?
Renji: ...I don't think I can think beyond the next few days.. Don't ask me!
Kira: *still too high*

Amidst the loud, drunk talking from the three, none of them noticed a figure waiting on the street in front of them.

Shuuhei: Oi! Kira~ It's your birthday up next, isn't it? Sometime in March?
Kira: Oooh... pretty lights!
Renji: I think he's too far gone to answer that question! HAHAHA!!

Byakuya: ...

Renji looked up and away from his two drinking buddies, finally noticing the person in front of them.

He started, surprised at who he saw standing there. He waved at his two friends, leaving them to head home themselves.
Renji: See you guys tomorrow! Thanks for the celebration!
Shuuhei: It's over...?
Izuru: ...?

He jogged towards the other, standing in front of him, lifting his hand up to the back of his head, feeling a little embarrassed at being seen like that.
Renji: ..eh..
Byakuya: ...

Renji: What are you doing here, taichou?

Byakuya blinked at Renji.
Byakuya: It's your birthday today.. Happy birthday.

Renji's eyes widened, he had not expected his captain to even have known that it was his birthday, let alone come out to look for him to wish him so.
Renji: *shock* ...

And as Byakuya predicted, Renji was indeed shocked to hear birthday greetings from his captain.
