Many women put up with shit that they shouldn't.
Here's a story, a story that shouldn't be anyone's:

Amber, this 18 year-old senior who works at TJ Maxx with me, has this boyfriend, Chris, who is ADHD and bipolar (without medication because his mother won't buy it). Chris just moved to Lancaster, about an hour and a half away, so he and Amber broke up after a year of going out because neither wanted a long distance relationship. For whatever reason, Chris moved back here.

Today Chris came into the store to see Amber and he had a Carebear stuffed animal and card Amber gave him recently. He threw them at her and they got into a fight. At some point, Chris slammed her up against a wall by the fitting room, in plain view of whoever was working the registers or whoever was in the front of the store. They then went back into the fitting room where he hit/slammed her again because it made a huge bang. Chris then left the store saying, "I'm gonna kill that fucking bitch."

Chuck, the shrink guy (security guy who catches shop lifters), filled a report, but couldn't call the police since Amber is not a minor. Anyway, at the end of the evening, Chris came to the door after we were closed and Jess yelled at him and told him we were closed. Jim made Amber happy by talking about Goonies and everyone tried to avoid the topic. No one was allowed to go up front when we were leaving since Chris was there and would see Amber. I offered to give her a ride home since her car is totalled from a wreck and no one else could/wanted to.

Miss Anderson, the manager, walked me to the front of the store alone and told me to leave like I would be going out the main road, then she told me to swing behind all the other stores and come around back to get Amber at the back door of TJ Maxx. I think I drove threw a field covered in snow just in case Chris had caught onto anything. I pick up Amber, and we drive around B&N and down to Mundy Street.

Overall, it was pretty frightening, but I think there are points in life when no one else will do something, one should step up. I don't know why Amber didn't ask Jim. I don't know why Lisa said no, I guess everyone is too concerned about their own lives and getting home on time or getting lost in a town they don't know very well. There's times when you just have to stop being so fucking selfish and help. That's all I can say.

That and, a woman, or anyone, should never put up with abuse. I don't care if you're bipolar, you shouldn't hit your girlfriend or anyone. And Amber shouldn't take that. She should have called the police. But, she didn't. And that's something I'll never understand.

Never.
