DOCTOR WHO - 703

Just seen it, I'm still overexcited!

When I saw Toby Whithouse's name in the opening titles, I was a bit worried: Vampires in Venice was very meh; The God Complex was a lost opportunity of doing a great episode; here he wrote a somehow simple story, all about the alien and war theme, with very little Amy ("you're a mother" ;___;) and even less Rory (me does not like). But, it's probably his best DW story so far. Because he created a very iconic "monster" and a very iconic race, that now is no more (that face tattoo will be on a few faces at the next Comic-Con, btw).

I liked the very touching story about war, experiments and sacrifices, that made me think about the two world wars. But, I don't know if it was Whithouse's feeble writing or if it was intended to be treated with lightness....I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and go with the second option.
And then hey! It's the far west, Toby and the episode win just for that.

In more than one moment I jumped, precisely:
- when Eleven took the gun to shoot Kahler Jex (Adrian Scarborough *_____________________________*) I literally jumped and screamed
- when the undertaker or whoever was gave Eleven a cup of coffee and he drank it. HE DRANK COFFEE!? Was he that worried about the all thing? He must have been, he took a gun some hours before.

I don't know how to judge Matt's Eleven here. He was kind of...strange?

And yeah, in the end it's all about the Doctor here, confronting a very different doctor with a different "war luggage". A very nice DW tribute.

A friend of mine that never watched DW told me that he will watch this episode, because it's settled in the far west and he loves it. He then told me: "Oh wait, I'll watch it and then you'll tell me all I need to know about DW that was in it". Yeah, so....Time War. Amy and Rory. River Song. The Doctor's loneliness. Nothing, really.
