Hello Internet!
Back from Skegness, the midlander seaside 'holiday' town. It was *sooooooooooooooooooo* bracing (their slogan apparently), but, apart from the tumultous (sp? Ah it's too late to care. I'm not going back now!) weather, it was pretty fun. There was always something to do, lots to see and a really nice beach. I think AB enjoyed showing me the places she went to when she was younger, I can see why it'd have been a cool place to grow up holidaying in as a child. Everything's close together and there are so many rides and machines for children of all ages.
There were so many arcades. There were machines as far as the eye could see, if the eye could see pretty far. That meant a lot of noise and a lot of money sucked into financial hoovers, curse you 2p machines!
The town's mascot is the iconic 'Jolly Fisherman', but whenever you see a picture of him he's falling over and actually looks quite uncomfortable. I'd have renamed him personally but Skegness ran with it and I guess they should stick with it now. As soon as you get off the train there's this life-size (now I'm assuming he was no giant) bronze statue of him, which I kept mistaking for a scary old person. Every time I turned towards the station I thought there was a creepy old guy just standing around. Never ceased to make me jump: I'm not sure how you'd take down a bronze 'jolly' fisherman if it started getting violent.
The B&B we stayed at was friendly, the room was great. I wasn't too keen on the breakfasts for some reason but one day I got an extra egg, so it's all good. If you get extra food it means they like you, right?! Or maybe they just thought I needed to gain some weight. Either way, nice place to stay. Nothing bad about it at all.
All in all, a nice holiday and very enjoyable. I was kinda expecting it to be more romantic, what with it just being the two of us alone a lot of the time. I'd created some pretty expectations in my mind but I don't think it's ever going to be that kind of 'thing' with AB, which is why I'm sat here sitting here typing this at 2:30am and AB is probably in bed facing the other way. It plays on my mind a lot these days, but there you go.
Anyway had a warm shower and I think I'm about ready to fall asleep. If you're ever near Skegness and feel in the mood for a seaside getaway, it's really quite pleasant. Especially if you like midlanders and aren't intimidated by bronze seafarers.
