moments of cooking failure turned genius

Dec 28, 2009 20:00

so, I have a cold pantry. on days that have a wind-chill of 7F, I have a VERY cold pantry.

For this and many other reasons, I hate my gas stove.  I keep failing to take into account the COLDNESS of my pans vs. baking times. And tonight, I burnt the bottom of the cornbread to the iron skillet, while still managing to undercook the rest.

I hate that goddamn stove,

So, I looked down at the chicken and noodles that were near burning on the stove in my distracted outrage at the cornbread. Then I looked at my 3/4 cooked upper crust of cornbread. And I flipped the cornbread into a pie crust sized casserole dish and stuck it back the goddamn oven for 5 minutes. Then I put the noodles over it and baked for another 5.

And damn is it good starchy countreh food. And I am shamelessly finishing off the blueberry pino Jeff brought home from Tampa with it.
