my month in key largo is over...:( but it was fun while it lasted.
tuesday i went with mom and pops in the boat to tavernier for some fishing,
we saw a storm comming and decided to turn in, i saw a 9ft crocodile swim across Jewfish Creek, that was cool.
that night Carla came over to go Lobstering with us at 12midnight, the official start of the mini lobster season.
it was too dark out so we ended up not going, instead we hung out in the condo.
Carla took the fake palm tree in my room and named it Cadunkcadunk, why?...i don't know. but i came out of the shower and found her attempting to teach the tree how to fly. lmao
the next day we went to Hariette's for breakfast, Carla's mom, grandmother, and Katie joined us. we started to draw on our plated using our forks and the cinnamon sourcream sauce, lol....that was fun.
later we went to Rodriguez Key for like 5 minutes and then another storm came...we couldn't get back to keylargo so we decided that it would be safer if Carla, her mom, Katie, and i went down to tavernier to their cousins house while my parents made their way back to keylargo because they insisted on going.
long story short....we got caught in the storm of the century trying to find the cousins house.
the men had gone out lobstering that day so the came back with 10 beautiful lobsters, they cleaned them while we played Outburst waiting for the storm to pass.
the next day we all went out lobstering at Watsons Reef, it was beautiful, but there was strong current.
i took a lot of pictures of fish and the reef with some difficulty because i was using a disposable that didn't have any zoom so i had to dive to take pictures, so i would run out of breath a lot.
the current was too strong to free dive for lobsters, so the snorkelers would spot them and the divers would catch them, we caught 6 before we left.
i forgot to put sunscreen on the back of my legs so my not my butt is severely sunburned...it hurts to sit down.
i decided to wander on my own a bit and check out where the anchor was to make sure it wasn't caught on the coral.
the anchor was fine, but the chain was drapped over a fan.
i took a look around and cruising towards me was a 6ft bull shark
i could feel my heart raceing when i saw it, it was so close i could see the remoras swimming close to it.
"PANHANDLE" was the first thing that flashed through my mind and then i remembered Carla, Katie and the rest of the kids were splashing and jumping off the boat, that had to have been what attracted it.
as quickly as i saw it i spun around as fast as i could and shouted at everyone to get out of the water there was a big shark, then i shouted at pops to pull me out of the water. and that was that.
the divers saw it before i did, but of course they were far away and underwater.
i've never been so terrified before, i was jumpy the rest of the day...and at night i had nightmares about it...i was really shaken up.
on friday the whole gang drove the boats down to the tikibar in Islamorada, best sandbar ever. i loved it, but i got a major case of sea lice all over my stomach and shoulders. a lot of people brought their dogs, i befriended a beautiful german short-haired pointer.
Eddie grilled hotdogs on his boat, i burned the roof of my mouth, and life goes on.
