ITALY!!!!!!!!
thigns have been pretty much incredible. ive got a lot to say, but not much time to say it, so i gues ill save all the inspirational experiences for another time. i guess its enough to say, for now, that being somewhere THIS DIFFERENT from home is the best thing that i could ever have done for myself.
london was wonderful, but still...not exactly difficult to figure the place out. but after the plane ride to italy, we were taken to a taxi lot and sent to various apartments scattered around the city. my roommates and i were pretty culture-shicked the first day/night...we got dropped off in some apartment with weird locks, we could understand anyone, no one could understand us, we were separated from our other classmates, we couldnt read any of the signs, the roads were like mazes, we didnt have any phones, everything was closed, we didnt have any toilet paper!!!! it was just so strange! it would have been one thing to be dorming at some school, where at least the people around you could speak your language, just you and a bunch of strangers who knew no more than you did. it was just...eh. challenging lol.
its been about a week, and already we can communicate in basic italian. we can walk across the entire city without looking at a map. it just does something to your self-confidence, knowing that you can take care of yourself in a foreign place.
the way they value time here is probably the best thing...something tha ti will take with me when i go home. people here actually take the time to EXPERIENCE their days. taking things to-go, spending mroe than 30 minutes staring at a computer screen...its just not done here, and its awesome. food is grown locally, everything is fresh...you have to finish milk and pasta in 2 or 3 days before it goes bad...kinda gross to think about our milk at home that can last for weeks. ick.
but yeah. to sum it up...CHALLENGE YOURSELF! whenever you can! because its important to realize how small you are.
anyway, these are some pictures that my roommate tagged me in on facebook. ill get around to uploading mine, i swear!!!
anyway, i love it here, but i do miss all my friends and family at home!!!! i hope all is well and that life is treating you kindly!!!
