(no subject)
I have work to do, and I haven't posted in a while = LJ post is the best answer right? :P
Uni is going pretty well. I did a lot of reading for sci-fi over the break... so much so that I'm ready to start writing my essay (on whiteness in District 9). All the further reading I have is one chapter my supervisor copied for me, and The Birth of the Clinic, and watching The Brother From Another Planet, which sounds like it'll be a lot of fun (more so if it was on dvd, but oh well :P). Cold war stuff isn't going as well, mostly because it'll be ~8,000 words (compared to sci-fi's ~5,000) so I was gonna get sci-fi out of the way first. Right now I should be reading The Culture of the Cold War. But it's not that interesting, even though the Cold War era is super creepy. I'm doing this essay in the revival of lynching during the 40's-50's, and I 've learned enough about lynching, the history of civil rights, whiteness in the States, etc... so this + looking at black Communists is really all I have to do.
I'm using a bit of Foucault (yay!) for both of them, which is always nice. I'd have his dead gay French AIDS babies anytime. [lol @ wiki: "In 1992 James Miller published a biography of Foucault that was greeted with controversy in part due to his claim that Foucault's experiences in the gay sadomasochism community during the time he taught at Berkeley directly influenced his political and philosophical works."]
I quit my job a while ago. I felt like I'd told everyone but it turns out I actually only told a few people (but I kept forgetting who I had told and then telling them again). So, I'm poor, but not stressed. Also, I actually have time to do Honours (it's pretty good). I have a good boss to get references from in the future, although if I end up staying in NZ next year I'll probably re-apply with them in November, 'cause it's by far the best job I've ever had.
So, yeah. What I do next year depends on where Slosh will be. While we could do long distance indefinitely, I'd rather not :P (also I don't care what country I live in) His PhD seems to be going well, and he's met (and introduced me to) some pretty cool people in Palmy, and that always helps. I went up there for a week in the middle of break and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (I actually had fun). The campus is so pretty ^_^. He's there for a couple more months, then on to Hobart for "several months" (his supervisor's words), and then I guess we'll maybe find out? :P [I keep forgetting to tell Mum... I never did tell her about Germany :P]
And party here on Saturday, although it'll be a little one because our new flatmate (Cyren) has organised it and he just wants a fairly quiet (i.e. not-KAOS) party. But that's cool.
