I'm back... with the DH book under my arm! ;)

Hi all. I don’t know if I have still some friend reading this… it’s been so long since I last posted… and in truth, I didn’t checked LJ for more than a year. Life is like that, interests come and go, and I’ve been rather busy as well… I’m sorry I didn’t answer any comment in that time, just… I was out of LJ. I hope you understand and forgive me.

I have still not finished my career, but I’ll will soon, at last! My great date is October fifth, so my summer has been so far working as crazy in front of my computer, and I foresee it will go like that till I’m finally done. I have only a couple of months left, and there is so much to do yet, but I cannot wait anymore. I WILL finish it.

But- I yet don’t live like a monk (although it’s a near thing, lately), and of course I went out to pick my Deathly Hallows book. Yes, my little HP fangirl is still alive! I confess, I never completely left… Sometimes… sometimes… I lurked… silently… though my old pages, my old comms, seeking, seeking a bit of HP fanfic… Snapefics to feed that little hpfangirl…

So… yes. I’m back to post yet another DH review (/laugh)

Well… I liked it. Surprised? Maybe, but… I liked it. Being very busy, I couldn’t read it in one go, even although I picked it at 1 am in a store like a pro ^^. Still, I yearned for it, every bit I got to read between hours stayed on my mind circling around, so I was pretty hooked although all the book. I wonder if I’ll feel so deeply immersed in the story the second time I read it (because I’ll read it again) but the point about the narrative flow, Rowling got it right, imho.

Now about the plot, I’m surprised about the hallows thing. Being the last book and everything, I didn’t think she would get another new plot around, but she did. I suppose she closed it all right, maybe the second read will show me all the plot holes… the only one that I know is the one about the “upside down” prank and the “lupin” prank in the The Prince’s Tale, I’m kinda confused about the timeline of these facts… but anyway, I was more interested in what was being said, so I didn’t mind too much.

About the characters… I’ll start with Snape. I knew he was going to die, I hoped wildly for a chance, but when happened, I didn’t surprise me at all. It was shocking, and I stayed shocked like Harry about how has been done. I had though something… dunno, maybe the classic “saving Harry’s life” redemption, but it was so quiet, so apparently useless, and yet at the end, the very thing which prompted Voldemort’s fall. I like the fact that Severus remained undetected till the end. I liked we get to see this death at that slow pace, when so many others fell off screen, or almost by chance, like poor Dobby. I liked that little bit of attention given to him, after all his wasted life.

I don’t know what to thing about his unrequited love with Lily. That theory has been out for so long, that it sounded… almost like fanfiction to me. I don’t know, maybe I’m so accustomed to facfiction that didn’t bothered, even when a little voice in my head tells me it should. Still… I found it believably enough, and Snape has always exuded a certain pathetic aura to me that now has been deeply confirmed. The silver doa… I knew (hoped very much) it was him. After all, detention with Hagrid for trying to steal the sword, c’mon! It was almost as if Snape were rewarding them for the chance of placing the fake under Voldemort’s nose. I find curious Snape only “spied” for Albus a couple of months until Voldemort’s first fall, but well, he paid full way the second time around. I’m… well, I wanted so much for him, and hoped so little, that Harry mentioning him at the last BIG fight was so extraordinary, and then naming his second son after him… that got me.

I know it was the second son, and the second name at it, but that little, minuscule bit of recognition… it made me truly taunt with emotion. Strange, is it? That prologue was so sweet that curdled milk, and still… That got me. I’m getting old (v.v)

About the rest of characters… I hated all about Remus and Tonks. Being Snupin at heart, when Remus seemed so down around Tonks I liked to think he was missing Snape, but jokes apart, what the hell? Who was that Remus? And that marriage express? And a baby? After or before the marriage, uh? *shakes head* I didn’t like Remus’s attitude at all. It can be understandable, but still… only showed how right Severus was about Remus’ strength of will. It left a bad taste of my mouth. I liked Remus, danm! And the way they died… *shakes head again* Pretty lame. But the same happened with many other people at that final battle, I skipped Fred’s death cleanly… maybe I was too focused in Snape. I felt for Dobby, however, and how Harry dug his tomb with his hands. I liked Kreacher too, and I’m a bit sad Regulus didn’t get any credit.

I hated that again, in spite of Phineas’ words at the end, Slytherin house was left out. Not a single student to remain… maybe we should be crying in gratitude that Slug stayed to fight Voldie in his pj’s. Well… I’m disappointed on that flank. Draco was again… superfluous, pity he seems to be more like his father that the gift of his mother, truly slithering but hey, human! She saved (kinda) Harry’s life, don’t forget! ;)

And about Albus… well… surprising back story… his friendship with Grindelwal sounded to me like Godric and Salazar again, and even the young characterization of Gellert sounded in my head as I always pictured a young Salazar. I hope to read some AD/GG slash. But I did buy the plot around him and his past, and flawed!Albus is tastier that saint!albus anytime.

Anyone missed Fawkes, too?

Anyone else missed Severus’ corpse/funeral/whatever? (Rowling giving us fanfic material as goodbye gift?)

Anyone else wanted to smack Ron in the head for YET again passing that Slytherin bias to her daughter?

Scourpius… WTF?
