I am hella busy. Things are pretty ridiculous right now, I'm not gonna lie. I'm in one very challenging class which requires me to write some sort of short essay almost every week, plus tons of reading. My Wednesdays really are the worst. I have biology lab at 10:30am, then my normal classes (with the exception of Fridays, I have 2 classes back-to-back every afternoon), then that evening I have the recitation for my crazy-ass English class. There's just over an hour between my afternoon lectures and this recitation, and I feel like it's not worth it to go back to my apartment during that time... like, by the time I got back, all I had time to do was the reading homework for my voice&speech class, then I had to leave again. I swear, it's such a fucking PROCESS to get to class from here. It takes me a good 10 minutes (if I walk fast)... and it's uphill. A steeper hill than last year. However, the kick-ass nature of my apartment makes it totally worth it. Eventhough it's looking like I won't be in said apartment from 10am until 7:30pm on Wednesdays. I'll just have to jam all of my books in my bag and lug them around all day. I've started doing my homework between classes in the JC on the days I have Religion and English (Mondays/Wednesdays), because they're 40 minutes apart. It's just not worth taking the 20 minutes to get to/from the apartment. At least tomorrow I only have one class. :D
Speaking of, here's my analysis of all my classes, just in case anyone wanted to know. I'll put it under a cut, though. This is gonna be a long entry.
RELI100: This is my Intro to World Religions class. It's alright. It's MWF from 1:30-2:00pm, so it's the first of my "afternoon classes" on those days. It's also the only class I go to on Fridays. Idk, the prof seems nice, the people are pretty chill, and it's a subject that one can always benefit from being well-informed about. We're starting out with indiginous religions of Asia, then working up to the more common religions from there. Should be cool. There was a kurfuffle with the textbook though, so no one has it. The bookstore is supposedly getting a shipment tomorrow, though.
ENGL325: This is the "challening"/"crazy-ass" class I mentioned earlier. It's 6 credits. But I loooooooove going to the lectures, because it's just a bunch of really intellegent book-people bouncing around critical analysis of whatever we're reading (we are reading 6 books this semester, no joke... this includes novels and essays, also Shakespeare and Gaiman... and some misc. poetry not included in the "6 books" part... I know, you're all so jealous right now). Also, my prof is off-the-wall. He's so energetic. About ENGLISH. Fantastic! It's a tough class, but I know I can handle it. I just haven't needed to apply myself as such in a while, so it's a bit daunting at the moment. At the recitation last night, I found out there was a reception for all of the English students next week... I may crash that party. Meet new people and all that.
BIOL103: Intro to Biology.... yeah, a science is required for me, so I took bio, again. It's honestly nothing we didn't do in high school, but at least it's a subject that I find mildly interesting. The lecture is just over an hour long, so it's a bit of a struggle to stay focused (this is the classic college lecture: 200 students sitting in a lecture hall, listening to the prof ramble on and on with little to no interuption), but like I said, I like bio well enough to handle it. The lab kills me (it's from 10:30am-1:15pm), but I can get through it. It's not hard, just... boring. And my lab instructor is a bio nazi. But w/e. I predict easy A.
THR300: Voice and speech for the actor! This class is so amazing. Someone who wasn't really into theatre or acting classes would find this course ridiculous, but it's going to be a fair amount of effort, just in a non-traditional way. Classes are twice a week (on TR, right after my bio lectures), and will mostly consist of rolling around on the floor in pjs/sweats and doing vocal exercises/relaxation techniques. Today, we got to lie on the floor and color with crayons. I shit you not. However, the homework gets a bit arduous. We have 2 books, and are expected to keep up with our reading. We're also doing monologues and journals. There will apparently be other misc homework assignments (for example, we need to write poems about our crayon drawings for next class, hee hee), but I haven't looked too closely at the schedule past this week. It's a good contrast to my bio lecture, lol. I quite like my TRs.
I'm only taking 4 classes. But they add up to 16 credits. Which I like, because while I'm doing a lot of work, it's more focused. It's not like I have a bunch of random crap to worry about. I know what's due and when. Bigger assignments, yes... but easier to keep track of. Ha ha, I should try to do shit like this more often.
I've been trying to get an on-campus job too. I've applied at the gym and the library so far, and there's an open job interview thingy for jobs at the Patriot Center (where I saw The Cure back in May) next week. I'd put in for a job at the Center for the Arts, but I feel like all I can do there is usher (which means working weekends- do not want) or work the box office, which is only open while I am in class. We'll see how things turn out, my schedule is already pretty hectic... and I'm also trying out for the first mainstage of the semester. Ha ha, not like I'll get anything. Whatever though, I feel like I can deal with being super-busy all week, as long as I have the weekends to just chill out. It's kinda funny how I haven't been busy at all since high school. This is a shock to my system, but I don't feel like I'm in over my head. It's good to have something pushing me to do well again.
Finally got into the gym today, huzzah! Hercules was on ToonDisney, so I was watching that as I worked out. Quite good motivation, actually. I need to own a copy of that movie...
And while I'm at it! Picture of my apartment!
