The Chronicle had an article yesterday about how the Democrats are likely going to release some sort of plan outlining the issues they want to bring up during the Midterms (although it also said they're still debating whether or not they need to do so, or whether they should just run on a 'we're not Republicans' platform...since that worked so well in 2004).
It consists of things like increasing the minimum wage, reducing interest rates on student loans, reducing oil subsidies...good stuff, mostly. Of course, there's absolutely nothing about electoral reform, or providing a uniform standard for elections throughout the country. That, combined with the fact that Gore and Kerry failed to challenge all these issues after their respective elections, leads me to believe that the Democrats probably pull plenty of dirty tricks themselves during elections. The Gubernatorial election in Washington in 2004 was extremely shady, with all kinds of dead people casting votes. The Mayoral race in San Francisco where Gavin Newsom beat Matt Gonzalez also had all kinds of issues similar to these ones.
My guess is that neither party is very clean when it comes to elections, and so neither party is going to do anything to change things. Maybe I'll just stay in France after my semester there is done.
