 Since my last post:
Went to the neurosurgeon, who looked at my scan for a second and said that what the ER doctor thought was bleeding was just movement and that because of that movement he can't see anything in the picture. He did some physical tests on me, said I was definitely in rough shape and wanted me to see a neurologist asap, I told him I had an apt with a neurologist who I was referred to when in the ER but it wasn't for a few weeks.. so he referred me to someone else...
A week passed and we still didn't have an apt with the new neurologist, and my symptoms were getting worse (horrible left-side headache, vomiting, nausea, dizziness) so we went back to the ER. They did a 2nd CT scan and said it was normal. Then gave me an IV with strong painkillers and something for the nausea, as well as fluids to compensate for all the vomitting. I felt great, so they sent me home...
24 hours late all my symptoms were back.
Went to my family doctor. She said its most likely a concussion from when I fell and hit my head and I need to rest my brain (no studying, no reading, no tv, no computer, just lay in bed all day for at least a week, except for apts.)
Next day I had an EEG to check brain activity (see if I had a seizure) and was told I won't get the results until I see my neurologist.
A week went by, I rested and was REALLY bored, and started to feel SO much better!
So... I went to Rome! haha. It was such a great trip, although I still felt kind of weak and had horrible left sided headaches at least once a day.
When I got back from Rome I had a message that I got booked for an apt with the neurologist in a couple weeks, but I already had another apt with the original neurologist for the next day, so I canceled the later one and went to that one.
We expected it to be really short, and that he'd basically say it looks like I'm recovering and that's that...
Not exactly... First he wanted to know every detail of everything that happened since I lost consciousness.
Then, he said that he wanted me to do a second EEG because the first was only 20 mins of recording and he wants more...so he booked me for a 4-hour EEG.
Next he told me that he got a letter from a radiologist who reviewed my 2nd CT scan... apparently he looked at it more closely and saw what looks like a blood clot... $&**(^*&%@ WTF? So he booked me for an MRI since that will give a clear image, unlike the stupid CT scans...
Then he started asking me a bunch of questions about medical history and symptoms, etc. He asked if I've ever had any chest pain, and I asked what kind and he said well what kind of chest pain have you had? So I told him that for at least a couple years I randomly get sudden sharp chest pains on the left side that make me double over, but are gone in a couple seconds... I just thought it was normal??? Well apparently not... so he scheduled me for an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) and a 24 hr holter monitor (a small heart monitor that you wear for 24 hrs while going through your daily activity).
Then... he said that he had to suspend my license because he thinks I had a seizure and the ministry of transport don't like that... grrrr...
So I had to drop the semester now since I can't drive to school, and yes I could bus but then I wouldn't have time to bus from school to work all the way in Kanata, and work is kind of more important since I have expenses... not to mention that I already missed so much school and with more apts, etc. I was worried I couldn't catch up.
So now I've had my 4 hour EEG, and the MRI (which was today and the IV they stuck me with to inject the contrasting agent caused a blood clot in my arm which is apparently not dangerous but looks gross and hurts!)
I have the echo and holter monitor in a couple days, and then follow up apt with the neurologist on April 14th...
I'm still getting horrible left-sided headaches that keep me up at night and I started getting shooting pains in my left arm (but their mild, not really painful, more just annoying...) and I still randomly throw up every couple of days... Just want this to be over with, can't wait until the 14th and hopefully it won't be a total nightmare to get my license back.
