perception is reality. simplicity is perception.

I saw the coolest thing today. I got outta school and got on the bus to go home. i gotta take a few to get there, cuz my school's downtown and i live up north. meanwhile, when i was waiting downtown for the 2nd bus to arrive i saw 2 guys, an obviously gay couple, walkin down Congress (the "mainstreet" of downtown Austin) headed toward the Capitol (Austin's the state-capitol of Tx, if u didn't already know. the Capitol is this HUGE castle-like building where all the political shit goes down. looks sorta like the white house, except beige and the atrium part is much bigger). Anyway, the two the 2 guys crossed the intersection facing the Capitol (Congress & 11th st.). When they reached the otherside, they walked real close to one another, held hands tightly, stepped inside the gates of the Capitol, and started walking the trail along the big-ass courtyard lawn in front of the Capitol. Now, most people wouldn't think much of it (aside from bitching cuz 2 gay guys were holding hands in public) but, with all of the bullshit against gay-marriage going on in the gov't and in the minds of the general american populace, i thought that was a pretty bold move to make. they made a grand statement, regardless of whether they intended to or not, in walkin around on the lawn of the biggest building in Austin made specifically for political business in the state that pretty much rejects gay marriage the most (the president's hometown, even). i dunno. i'm sure none o u think it's any big deal. hell, the 2 guys prolly don't either. but, just the image of two men holding hands walkin across the lawn of the Capitol....i saw a little poetic justice in that, simple as it may be. not that i EVER intend to get married...ever...ever...E V E R. but, seeing the current situation (for bi/gay folks who DO wanna get married) through THEIR eyes....those two guys made me smile today. whoever the fuck they were....i wish em well!
