BBC: UK 'must insulate 25 million homes'

Feb 28, 2017 09:32

A report to Parliament says 25 million existing homes will not meet the insulation standards required by mid-century.

Reported by the BBC.

I am not permitted to materially improve the insulation in my (grade 2 listed) house. So, if anyone in Government wants better home insulation from me, they need to let me do it.

Half of my house has single brick width walls, can't put any insulation in them. I checked. Loft is full, though.

Several houses near me have recently had external wall insulation added.
Once finished you can only tell where the edges stick out, but having seen it during construction it looks like a thick layer of foam+foil board is put on the external wall and weather-proofed.

That would be astoundingly ugly on half of a brick house.

So yes it's awkward looking, sticks out, stands out, ruins external windowsills, limits window view angle and is ugly. Plus it would look even more so when only applied to half a house since my building was significantly extended with modern, already insulated, walls.
