Vision Express customer service wins again

So, today I took my (Oakley) sunglasses back to Vision Express because I thought there was supposed to be a bit of etching on the edge of the lens to obscure some of the visual distortion at the lens edge. Their Oakley specialist agreed there should be and will contact Oakley, likely to have a new pair made entirely correctly. He seemed somewhat irritated that Oakley had done this to him and was keen to sort it out.

Other than that the Oakley prescription sunglasses are very nice, I would recommend them to anyone who wants wrap-around prescription sunglasses. They can do prescriptions to a total (spherical + cylindrical) of about -6 or +4. Even without an etched edge, the visual distortion is no worse than other high-prescription lenses.

Meanwhile the frame of my other glasses broke last Saturday at a weld on the side of the frame. This is far more irritating since they are only a few months old and this sort of break is not repairable. The reaction of the staff member was "They're not supposed to break, the manufacturer's guarantee is for 12 months. I'll replace them immediately". He then spent spent 10 minutes swapping lenses into the pair from their stock.

Obviously it would be nice if these things didn't happen, but a certain failure rate in manufacturing is inevitable, and the Vision Express response has been very good.

If you go into Vision Express, look for the tall blond man with a goatee beard, he is excellent at adjusting glasses.
