ROTM - Payback.
Flashback-ish. Related to the events following this
"You can't do that! I love her. Do you know what that's like? Do you?!"
There are a few times in a man's life where he has to stop and replay the events that have taken place in his life. These crucial events are ultimately responsible for bringing him to this moment of self evaluation, and without them, it's hard to know if his life would still be his own.
"Give it to me. I'm not going to play this game with you! I'm not!"
If things didn't happen the way they did, would he still be himself? He thinks about it; he has to. If things had happened differently, what would his life be like now? There's no telling what he would be getting back, and there's certainly no way of knowing what he would be giving up in exchange.
"If you hurt her, so help me God I'll kill you. Nigel... Nigel!"
In replaying these events, he decides if it was all worth it - all the pain, all the hurt. If he went back in time, would he go through it again? All of it?
The sound of a gun shot rings through Nick's head as he lays in bed. He closes his eyes for a moment and takes a deep breath. Hearing her stir in her sleep, he opens his eyes and looks at her. She's holding on to him. She snores a little, and he smiles. He doesn't want to wake her, but he tips his head and places a soft kiss on her forehead. All the pain, all the hurt? He would go through all of it again if he had to.
Love and safety in return for strength and courage. Payback can be funny like that sometimes.
