I didn't see a lot of Hillary's speech tonight, but what I did see there was a lot of talk of substantive things she wanted to do. She spoke of education and abolishing No Child Left Behind, and her plan to start pulling out troops in 60 days from taking office; I respect her candor and specificity. I watched all of Obama's speech, and while his die-hard supporters spoke his praises and couldn't get enough of it, I heard little but aphorisms without substance. By my count, he mentioned "change" 11 times, "hope" 8 times, and "choice" or "choosing" 7 times. It's not a huge deal really; all of his plans--substantive ones--for America once he gets into office are included on his website. I mean, I'll grant that the "change" he offers is part of why I support him, but it'd be nice if he peppered the "change" message with some substance that people could really get behind. Cheers for substance, not just for rhetoric, would be nice.
If you're wondering, the full text of Barack Obama's speech was available as of 11:30 pm tonight on
