frankfurt - day 2
- -
oh wow. i really like frankfurt.
i spent yesterday exploring the city. it is beautiful and bizarre. it is one of the few european cities with skyscrapers and they are all mixed in with the old buildlings. my new friends have been telling me that 90% of frankfurt was destroyed during the war. so it has this kinda new old feel. or old new feel.
no matter what the feel is - it really is beautiful here.
i was actually regretting bringing my skateboard. my first sleep deprived day was spent wandering in misty cold rain with it on my back. it had even snowed last night. today i used it all day. i saw so many parts of the city because of it.
my couchsurfees live in my favourite part of the city. it is called bornheim. i spent some time here wandering and ate a tasty delicious breakfast. from there i skated along the ziel shopping area and listened to an amazing gypsy band. i saw some more stuff. i dunno. i just looked around and watched people and noticed that there are so many bicycles riding everywhere in every direction. i have always felt you can detect the health of a cities way of life by the amount of bicycles. frankfurt is in tip top shape.
from there i went back to the river and watched some boats go by. they are really cool looking. long and flat. then i skated along it and found a skatepark. i played around there for a while and then was off again. just wandering and playing the right left game. getting lost on purpose.
i found a street called leipzig (well, i was told i should definitely visit this area). it was bustling and fun. i wandered some more. went to a cafe and had a cup of tea. it was all rather lovely.
skating around the city was just fucking wonderful. especially at night. it lights up and looks so great. from the skyline to the bridges and cathedrals. i really like frankfurt.
