Mortarboards and Bikinis

... not worn at the same time, obviously.

Lots done in the past week, hence the lack of LJ activity.

Last wednesday was my graduation. I was a little worried about what it would be like, the ceremony itself sounded incredibly boring, and also we graduate by school, so only people I knew through the history department would be there. It's quite annoying that you can't graduate on the same day as all of your friends; as other brits know, we don't get a graduation ceremony from High School here (or no one that I've heard of has) so the University graduation ceremony is it. (unless I go crazy and do a masters at any point).

Arrived in Leeds at lunchtime after managing to convince my father that getting to my graduation ceremony on time was mildly more important than washing the car. It was a fabulously sunny day, british weather decided to go crazy recently and actually give us some sunshine. Unfortunately it was just way too hot once had all of my robes on (which were surprisingly fancy, didn't realise that there'd be so much , erm, ruching), which has probably resulted in my graduation photo, which will be displayed on family walls for years to come, being of me at my most 'glowing'. Great.

In anycase, had a really good time. Father bought a jug of Pimms (gotta love guilt) which we consumed on the lawn (union prices though!), the ceremony itself went very quickly (thank god, it was a snoozefest where the professor announcing us looked at everyone in turn and smiled like he was aour bezzie mate. I've never met the bloke! To make things slightly more annoying my dissertation supervisor, whom I wanted to thank for helping me get a 70, looked past me blankly. He is old though, and a litle eccentric; I'm not sure he knew where he was full stop.) and the reception afterwards, although very hot, was a nice chance to catch up with people.

The rents then took me for a slap up meal on the way home. Mmm, just what I needed. Yummy chocolate-mousse flavoured calories.

Then Thurs morn it was off to cornwall with the loopyladies, for, erm, a business trip. A business trip that involved, amongst other things, hopscotch on the beach, loud prounouncements upon levels of sex being had by individuals made in resteraunts and gin and tonic being smuggled into communal gardens in a tonic bottle to avoid looking like alchies.

Bliss. Back now, avec strapmarks, and now have a birthday party, a BBQ and an anniversary party and then I start work on Monday. AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

holidays, the joys of work, graduation
