These are a few of my favourite things

Argh, it's taken me ages to get to this! Sorry about that.

Leave a comment and I will pick three of your interests and three of your icons I would like you to explain. Post them in your journal and allow others to comment and request the same.

Sweet
dragonfly_sidhe chose these for me to explain:

eva green: I'm not sure what it is about this French actress that makes her so attractive to me. I'm pretty certain her freckles have something to do with it, though. I first saw her in Kingdom of Heaven and was later equally smitten by her Bond Woman characteristics; I actually could believe in her character as the woman that could bend the arrogant and already quite emotionally guarded young agent out of shape with her very being. Now I'm excitedly looking forward to The Golden Compass with Eva as the northern witch (with the Finnish name, too) Serafina Pekkala!

steampunk: Let's start with the basics: steampunk is a genre where steam power (g/d)oes fantasy/scifi. Think of  Victoriana, rayguns, airships, clockworks and so forth. Everything about it fascinates me. Especially airships.

morbidity: In my interests list it refers to "morbidness" as in "preoccupation with unwholesome thoughts or feelings". Even as a child I was drawn (also) to the dark side: stories of horror, death, crime, disease and other such charming, maggoty things. Dark visions such as those by Dario Argento, H. R. Giger, Clive Barker and others; freak shows and strange diseases; innovative and gory murders and other crimes; things like these both intrigue and repulse me. I abhor violence and dislike conflict -- perhaps my morbidity is some kind of safe outlet of mine.

On with the icons:

Butterfly Shadow is the name I gave to this icon that is currently my default one. It was created by wintersweet who has this and other lovely icons here. The image is from an artwork by the Japanese artist Tadashi Nakayama. When I saw the icon I felt it was me.

 This icon was made by
snowgrouse and I can't for the life of me remember where the image is from (if I ever knew it). Hey Grouse, help me out here! I have a thing about blindfolds and I love how it's contexted here. The image is erotic but has nothing sleezy about it, and the bond between the two could symbolize a number of things like friendship. See how "trust" is between them? Lovely.

'Black Jade' is in fact the name of the original work, which is (despite its classical oriental style) by the contemporary artist Caroline Young. Black Jade is the heroine of the Chinese classical novel The Dream of the Red Chamber. The icon was made by wintersweet and can be found in the same place as "Butterfly Shadow". I'm a complete sucker for many things Asian and I instantly fell in love with the picture. She's gorgeous, the bird on her hand is adorable and in the background is the cliff and the sky full of stars.

fun
