As you may know, several versions of the 1973 The Wicker Man exist. On DVD the only valid option is "the restored long version" AKA "extended version" AKA "director’s cut" AKA
the special edition DVD. For more information do check out
this brilliant site about the various versions. It has a lot of background and making-of info on this unfortunate but excellent cult classic and comparisons of the different versions. It even has info on the completely cut parts that have never been released. I also wholeheartedly recommend the fabulous
soundtrack.
Apparently the infamous American remake is coming out during this year, or so insinuates
its page in IMDb. It's also called The Wicker Man, with Nicolas Cage as the police and a Sister Summerisle instead of a Lord O.o Here’s a spoiling (but who cares)
look into the script. I guess I might watch it as a comedy if suitably drunk. And if I didn't have to pay anything.
Somewhat more interesting is the possibility of the original’s director Robin Hardy getting back together with Christopher Lee to make a "reimagining" called May Day
Cowboys for Christ. Master Lee
was pretty excited about the project quite some time ago and on
more recent news the film will also star Vanessa Redgrave and Sean Astin. Would watch this sober (although I consider it possible that a post intoxication would be required) and might even cough up some coin for it. Time will tell -- apparently they'll start to shoot it early this year.
Howie: I’ve come to find a missing girl - a girl whom everyone says never existed.
Miss Rose: How Quixotic of you.
Howie: Quixotic?
Miss Rose: From Don Quixote - an enthusiastic visionary, a pursuer of lofty but impracticable ideals.
Howie: Also a man of honour, I believe.
Miss Rose: Which did not prevent him from continually making a fool of himself.
Howie: Aye, aye, well we’ll see about that.
