I'm home resting for a few hours, and regretting that I'm not more active here anymore, and therefore have no idea if anyone is around to talk to me. Time was, I would absolutely know who, in which timezone, would likely be a) online and b) interested in a fannish discussion ( Read more... )

Hardly random! I have very fond memories of your current country; it was the first place I ever traveled on my own (well, part of a school exchange, but my parents weren't there.)

I was never meant to enjoy the process of wedding planning. Thankfully we have support from level heads to wrangle the bears. Which implies that we're headed towards sad trapped zoo bears or pathetic tortured circus bears.

...I'm not crazy about this metaphor. Your transmogrification idea was better.

So here's a story--yesterday a fugitive (stabbed somebody at the bus depot) ran, on foot, into our neighborhood and proceeded to hide here for 4-5 hours. Cops everywhere, helicopters at one point, K9 units and lots of emails through the community list. He tried or did peacefully enter two homes on my street, and I'd had my door unlocked because girlfriends were coming over for a knitting/kaffeklatch evening. Whooooooaaaaaaa. We ended up on lockdown at sunset, so one of my friends was turned away in her car at she tried to arrive fashionably late, and the girls at the party had to stay about 45 minutes longer than they intended while the manhunt was actively rolling around the neighborhood.

Luckily, they caught him around 9:30, confirmed it to the newsoutlets at about 10 or 10:15, and no one had to sleep on the couch.

And, importantly, we still had plenty of wine.
