Phew. Well I suppose all the good energy and happenings lately had to be balanced out at some point. I had a bit of a miserable day yesterday.
I live in NYC, where we have alternate side parking, so once a week I have to move my car from it's spot (as I take the subway into work I only drive my car once a week anyway.) In any case, I get to my car with a few minutes to spare only to realize that the battery is dead. I know I am at risk of getting a parking ticket but I quickly write a note stating my battery is dead and I will be back in a moment after I find a battery charger to jump start it. I hurry along to a close-by gas station and they rent me their portable battery charger after I leave my id for them to hold for the rental. At this point I put my wallet back into my pocket and start to power walk back to my car. Once I get back to the street, a mere five or ten minutes later, I see a police officer starting to write me a ticket and I do my best to run towards him with this heavy battery charger in my hand. I get to him too late and though he does seem sorry he tells me the ticket is already written and that they are told to ignore notes about car troubles when they hand out tickets for alternate side parking.
So I am already tearing up as he walks away and then doing my best to jump start my car solo, something I have never done before, but luckily a guy passes by and offers to help me. We get the car started again, although it does cause the alarm to go off and won't stop even as I drive the car back to the gas station to return the charger. When I get there I go to pay the 5 dollar rental fee and realize I can't find my wallet anywhere. I search the entire car twice to realize that it must have fallen out of my pocket when I was running towards my car. I go through the path that I drove/walked twice but it is no where to be found. I even checked into every bodega and store along the way but no one has seen it. This was all within 20 minutes, I can't believe someone had grabbed it that quickly.
The series of events were really ridiculous. Luckily the gas station was holding my id and I quickly cancelled my credit and debit cards, as well as filled out a report at the police station in case someone does turn it in, but I had about 100 dollars cash in my wallet along with some gift cards, my food handler certificate and two library cards, one of which I will be unable to get an other one of. So yeah, not a great day at all but after quite some tears I am trying to move on.
Fingers crossed I make some good money today and that I am able to contest my parking ticket once it shows up in the system.
