Dying a little every day

I'm working an a lab report I have no real intention of finishing (or so it would seem if you judge by my startlingly slow pace) when I decide I need a break. What do I do? take a little stroll around facebook, totally harmless. Look through a few pictures from a party I attended that were recently posted, respond to a quick message, maybe even poke someone. I few moments later I feel refreshed, I'm smiling, life is good. I look back to the lab report, my life crashes. I want more of the fun times, less of this mind-numbing sillyness.

I know that most self-respecting college students do the facebook break. Why do we do this? Why do we purposely juxtapose what is hard and grueling with what is exciting and fun? The modern college student is a masochist.
