What's with normal people trying to help me with my field of expertise? Wow, really sounds like I'm bitching about nothing, hah.
On the weekend, I quickly switched my ps3 on to eject my friends game, then turned it off again. I shouldn't have done that, I should've checked to see what was on the TV or whatever, but I didn't. It must've writing something to disc, because when I got home, it wouldn't load the OS properly. All good, figured I could restore it through a boot menu. Took me maybe 10-15mins to find out how to get to the boot menu, and in the end I had to format the drive (I've lost all my save data). It's all working fine now.
But for some reason, during this time, Matt and Henry decided to be "helpful". Well, Henry was just saying "is it fixed yet?" and "what about now?" and "surely you've found something on google already". Because when you do a google search for some problem, it's always the number one result you get *rolls eyes* (the thread that told me what to do was on the second page of results, buried under a pile of text).
Matt was being more useful, suggesting that maybe there was a problem with the HDMI cable or the TV, because it has to 'certify the HDMI signal'. That was not the issue, could not have been the issue, and I've confirmed previously that the TV doesn't need to be fiddled with at all to get HDMI running. I appreciate what he said, but he could've... well... left me alone to fix the problem myself.
I just find it annoying that people who don't spend their lives around this shit, and dealing with this shit, insist on helping me. If it was the usual people I consult with about issues, it would've been fine, but then again, their input would've been infinitely more useful, and prolly would've been exactly what I was thinking. In fact, they would barely think about it unless I specifically said I've got a problem, which at no point did I mention.
I don't tell you how to run vic roads, or how long some project should take, and I don't try to help you with biochem, so why the hell try help me fix some bug with a computer like device.
Then there was this guy today who has managed to get himself a virus (and he asks how he got it. How should I know, I'm never stupid enough to get them in the first place). He gives me his laptop and then stands behind me for a while. I tell him this will take some time and I'll see him when it's done, and he still stands there. It took quite a bit of convincing for him to go away.
Another guy, who I explained my ps3 problem over the weekend, asked me why Sony has done nothing to fix this. Why would I know the answer to that? Why even ask that? I'm not complaining that I did something stupid and lost my data, I'm just stating it as a fact, and that it kinda sucks.
Wow, Rereading this, I really am just a grumpy old man. FML.
