This is a horrible time for a GIP, but seriously. Double GIP:
All day long I've been watching the stuff on CNN, MSNBC, FOXNews, etc., about the hurricane. It's like a train wreck. It's like another 9/11, really. One of those things that is so horrible that you just want to forget, but it's because it is so horrible that you can't stop watching and listening to the news.
I decided not to really think about it yesterday. I gave what little money I had to the donations that the *shudder* Republican party was collecting at the street fair in town last night. No worries, I donated more to the local Dems and got my sister her voter's registration forms. And bought two new, shiny bumper stickers! Yeay!
Anyways, I'd decided not to think about it.
Then today I was flipping through the friends list and read and remembered that someone I know and love and adore (and have known and loved and adored for the past three to five years) lived in New Orleans. It's so easy to be passively depressed about something that you aren't really even indirectly related to. Now I'm just at a whole new level of depressed. I've watched the news, read the stories, heard the bullshit spewing from Bush and Mrs. Bush's fat, ugly heads...
The worst thing I heard today was from Lady Bush, and I paraphrase, "People need to realize that bad things aren't happening here." She was visiting a Louisiana convention center. There was no way that she was going to convince anyone who had read the stories of rape, assault, death, theft, etc. with one single not-so-reassuring comment. Your husband screwed up. He frequently screws up. Don't think we haven't noticed by now.
So I've still got a lot of packing to do for Monday. Lots of packing and cleaning and moving things...
