That is so interesting! I would have thought it would be the opposite - that people underestimate themselves, or that they would at least indicate that to others so as not to appear conceited. It kind of makes sense given the characteristics of the Millennial generation though - they have always been rewarded for everything, including effort. They have virtually done away with first prizes and instead given everyone stickers for trying. What happened to the saying, the only thing the truly wise man knows is that he knows nothing?

The thing is, most of these tests are applied in test form, i.e. you're not announcing them outloud. Just think of it this way - Most people don't want to say, "Yeah, I'm about average in smarts." Looks might be different, though.
I think the Lake Wobegon effect definitely exists. Nobody except the truly depressed probably want to admit they're less intelligent than someone else, or that their situation is worse than 50 percent of the people.
