it is always the ones you least expect.....

ok.

Today after school I was at my desk trying to sort the pile of chaos it has become, when one of my mischievous year 8 boys came into my room. I looked up and said "hello, Furqan what is up?' He had his head down and said in a very meek (completely unlike him) voice "Miss, is it true you are leaving?" I replied "yes". He then nervously said "Are you gonna bring a camera and take some pictures so you can remember Denbigh?" I nodded and said "I suppose I could- that would be a good idea" I showed him a scrap book I have on my desk about Canada with pictures of me as a kid and a bunch of stuff like that. He then said "I have to go now" and before he had finished the words he had his arms around me giving me a quick and unexpected hug. Then he ran out of the room. It was so cute- and melted my heart. It was the first time I realized that although lots of the time, I feel like I am doing nothing for my students- I might be making a difference to them- and that as a teacher, you never know what kind of impact you are actually having on your students. It really is a job of great responsibility and privilege, and I am fortunate to experience it.
