*on stage*

Dec 15, 2003 17:28

*perched on a bar stool*

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir

Or, y'know--

*gestures at self, smiles at the appreciative murmurs*

And folks dressed up like Eskimos
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Helps to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all a-glow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

Do we have any parents here tonight? Great. How old? Aww. Are you already having trouble making them sleep through the night? Oh, that's rough. Still, y'gotta love the little rugrats, don't you? As long as they aren't playing host to soul-darkening demons or shoving oatmeal in your CD player.

They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really know how to fly!

And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas--
Merry Christmas--
Yes, merry Christmas to you!

Thank you, thank you. One of my favorites from this time of year. I see we've got a lot of regulars here tonight, and some unknown faces that I hope will become regulars. But whoever you are and wherever you're going after you leave here tonight, I hope you'll come again. If this season means anything at all, it's a time for us all to come together. Not to tear each other to pieces, or to figure out where the other person is hiding their wallet, or to take notes for the fashion police ... but to come together and remember the things we have in common. A time of peace and harmony.

And there's nothing I like better than harmony--but I can't do that solo, so who's willing to come up on stage and sing with me tonight? Anyone? Or just stay at your table and order more drinks and sing along. You probably know the words, even though we seldom mean them here in sunny California--

Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
