Akumal and many wonders

Apr 23, 2010 00:48

Akumal was just as amazing as we had dreamt it would be!  Every day of the week we woke up to see the sun rise over the turquoise sea and every night we sat on long chairs, our feet in the salty water, admiring the moon as it lifted itself upon the horizon.

There were birds of all sorts surrounding us: chatty great tailed grackles, pelicans flying in V-shaped formations, soaring condors, potential falcons, gulls like I've never seen, beach birds with long legs and intricate patterns on their backs, small black ones with bright blue shoulders, and melodious yellow ones...

A few minutes walk from the hotel room we had started calling home, we could plunge in the sea, swim above the coral reefs, and meet schools of hundreds of blue or bright yellow fishes.  A bit further, there were barracudas, sting rays, and sea turtles who'd come to take a breath of fresh air right next to us.  The stoplight parrotfishes were among my favorites and they seemed to like me as well, as they kept posing close to me, allowing me to study their astonishing colors and patterns.  Now that I know more about them, I wish to adopt them as a totem: I want to live by their incredible color mixes and transcend gender definition just the way they do! <3

On one of my last snorkeling trips, I also had the unexpected chance to encounter one of my favorite kinds of creatures in the world: a cuttlefish! It was incredibly cute, even by cuttlefish standards, which is saying a lot. ^_^;  We stared at one another for a whole quarter of an hour, as it kept switching slightly the bright aqua patterns on its soft beige and brown back.  I was smitten!

Love and I thought we wouldn't take that many pictures and, all things considered, we didn't.  There's still over 300 in the end, but since there were 2 photographers and so many inspiring things, it's a modest total. ^_^;

Here's a member of the iguana family who lived right behind our building:

Beach Jiro at his best:

Akumal Beach Resort is a place I would highly recommend to anyone who'd want to visit the region.  Every one is so kind over there.  A man even brought guavas just for me and made me discover a fruit I've never heard of before: mamey.  It's so delicious!!!!  It's like the best imaginable cross between a fruit and a cake.  If anyone knows where I could find some in Montreal, please, please tell me!

Here's one of my mameys:

We didn't go out much during the week.  I mean, we explored our hotel's terrain from the sea wall and the sandy beaches to the coral peninsula that tipped the lagoon and the deep jungle that separated us from everything else.  We also visited the beautiful village of Akumal, where I got a bottle of some unknown traditional honey-based alcohol (which turned out soooo good!) and 2 Japanese-style food erasers for the gang.

Later during the week, we went to Playa del Carmen for some shopping and sight seeing.  We both hated the touristic section of the town, since chic jewelry isn't our style and we got badgered by a very insisting seller.  The rest of the city was more inviting, but as we're not much into shopping, we didn't stay very long.  There was a list of small items we wished to purchase: sunglasses for my Love, sandals for me, a nice woven blanket or a scarf, and a bottle of mescal.  We happily got all of these, safe for the mescal which I found later, and then I discovered that the fashion shops I visited during my first trip five years ago were still there.  I remembered I wanted an extra pair of shorts, and found the comfiest, stretchiest, and sexiest I've ever seen!  I couldn't resist and got a pretty gothy corset-dress as well, since I thought it looked so alluringly cartoony on me. ^_^

The trip back to Montreal made us realize just how much we would have wished to stay in Akumal.  The plane was a whole 12 hours late and the airline representatives were in majority unpleasant at best.  Forget Sun Wings: they're sunny in name only.  Still, we complained and now hope they offer us a pretty discount for a next trip! XD

All and all, we spent this entire week in an absolute paradise, always wondering if we'd wake up to the sound of the alarm clock that usually prompts us to work.  It was amazing, breathtaking... perfect.

...And since I didn't want the dream to end when I was back at the office, well, I did the irresponsible (yet somewhat predictable) thing and ordered from Iplehouse...  I still can't believe, whenever I see her picture, that I'm actually waiting for a real Ashanti.  I was very fond of the tall EID girls from the beginning, but although I liked some of their faces quite a lot, none could stop my heart the way Ashanti does.  Her traits are so well sculpted and her skin tone seems to enhance her shapes in a way I never imagined.  Oh~ I can't wait to see her!

It's even more incredible considering Oska is nearly here...  I'm so excited!  Oska is from Iplehouse as well: she's a Real Skin Tatiana and hopefully, the young teen I've been hoping to see for oh~ so many years!  I'm a little nervous too since she's one of my characters... I wish she'll be my mischievous, dare-devil, tomboy mechanic. <3

Last good news for this post: something that I've been mentioning way too often during the last year or so... Something I've been pining for...  Resolution!  My proposition has been refused at work but I don't mind...  I got to talk about my resignation and future plans with my bosses and we came to a compromise that pleases everyone: I'll keep working full time till the end of May, then do part-time during most of June to form my successor.  If ever I find a new job in the mean time, we'll change the plans accordingly.  It's perfect.  I'm so happy!  I finally feel free~!  If ever you hear about nice part-time positions, give me a sign! ^_^
