Back from the three-day Arlington hike in the Presidentials.... fun stuff :D
We stayed at Galehead hut (AMC hut) the first night, and Zealand the second night, for anyone who's been to the huts...
I am covered in bug bites and blisters :D huzzah :D
More details later, perhaps...
(Later :D)--
The views (especially from West Bond) were incredible/tremendousful/stupdendousful, and entirely worth (I think :D) hiking in 80-90 degree weather. The only vaguely miserable part of the hiking was the first mile of the second day, which was in the really hot/humid weather, incredibly steep uphill that kept seeming about to end and then went on and on and on, and incidentally took us an hour to hike up. For some reason, I felt really nauseous and light-headed, but discovered afterwards that it was because I had only had part of a pancake for breakfast and was half starved/thirsty or whatever.
The rest of the hike wasn't bad, the last part of the first day was kind of steep, but the hike was only 4.6 miles, so it was fine. The second day was 7.1 miles, from Galehead to Zealand, but a bunch of us left our packs at a junction and went another 2.4 miles round trip to West Bond in the middle, which was most definitely worth it. I'd post pictures but we don't have a digital camera, and pictures wouldn't quite be the same anyways. Hmm...almost ran out of water on the last mile to Zealand. :D The hut is right by a bunch of falls down the rocks, with freezing cold water, so we all went wading/dunking/whatever when we got there. Third day was only 3 point something miles, all downhill, so we left late from the hut and spent a bunch of time swimming in the river at the bottom, and then all went out to lunch.
So that was fun, and I feel very exercised, which I haven't since the end of the fencing season. And itchy thanks to all the black flies and mosquitos. This was also the first hike using my pack (which has all sorts of miscellaneous straps that I don't know what to do with :D) and hiking boots, which turn out not to be broken in yet :)
And my goal to have a six-pack before the end of the summer is so far failing miserably.
:D
