The Loch Ness Monster
Thomas Buchan
Sometimes at night when the wind blows hard the Loch Ness monster is lonely for his extinct contemporaries the warm flying fox and the luscious algae
so too in the long silent hours when the wind blows (the black water closing over my head) I am lonely for you my extinct love pinioned down there in the strata
"I love you" I cry-- but you cannot weep or move your head
and I am terrified I shall not be near you again until the rocks are broken and our dead dust is blown out into space.
