"This is the second time I've been killed off the vampire in three days, Ms. Morgan, I need some reassurances."
"How do we know that this isn't an ongoing thing? Rumor has it that the vampire lost his soul again."
"I assure you," I said with the utmost confidence, "If the vampire had lost his soul? He'd be revelling in the carnage, not trying to stop it."
The thing is, though, what I said? Not exactly true. At least, not in every sense of the word. Angel is revelling in the carnage. Ever since his Girl Friday started receiving the debilitating visions again (this time, not through me) Angel seems to have launched a personal vendetta against anything evil that breathes the wrong way in the city.
Doesn't make for confident clients for Wolfram and Hart, that much I can tell you.
Despite that, however, work has been going quite swimmingly. I got a raise for 'discretion well-exhibited' - not altogether sure what that means but there was a couple of hints towards it being something to do with Angel.
I didn't argue.
I figure that if self-preservation earns me more money? Then that's what I'll do. Well, to an extent, anyway.
