Daphne walked down the hall, bookbag in tow. She was kind of nervous about this meeting with Longbottom. After all, she had signed the scroll, and had basically pledged herself to the Dark Lord....

But after seeing what he had done to Pansy, and her family, and seeing for herself how much things were being ripped apart within the school, she decided that she needed to take matters into her own hands.

Sighing, she walked into the empty room. Neville was sitting stock-still. She smirked, opened her mouth, then re-thought it. She closed the door. "Hello," she said, setting her bookbag down.

Neville's eyes fluttered open, and he smiled. Just in case, he maintained the Occlumency he had been practicing.

"Hello, Daphne. I can't tell you how glad I am you came. Make yourself comfortable. I can conjure chairs, if you like. Also, I placed some spells to make sure we are not overheard. Once you shut the door, we were also warded so no one short of Inspector Moody can interrupt us."

Neville looked Daphne in the eyes, a kind and patient look in his eyes.

"I think we have a lot to discuss, but since you asked me to meet you, I think you should start."

Daphne wanted to roll her eyes--only Gryffs would take so much time setting up a meeting and telling her what was happening--and telling her they were sooooo glad she'd come ( ... )

Neville did not speak for a few moments, prosessing all she had said. He knew he had to play this just right, or even this fleeting spark would go out ( ... )
