"Not necessarily to spy on the school,, Alastor. You-Know-Who ordered the transmitters be placed so he could listen in and hopefully gain useful information." Arthur leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "So far, Draco has provided us with useable information, mainly telling us of the transmitter that was with Neville. I believe he truly wants to help the Order, but I am still on my guard. We can't trust him right away, that trust must be earned."
"That is what Voldemort is after according to, Mr. Malfoy, or should we still call him B?" Minerva added. "He wants the school. IF we are giving, Malfoy the benefit of the doubt, I have to assume that telling us about the transmitters is to allow us to control the information going to the Death Eaters. Perhaps even provide false information.
"Tonks destroyed that first one, Alastor, and it's being replaced by four. My first impulse is to destroy those as well. But if they're merely replaced again, this time without our knowledge, it could lead to an even worse situation."
Alastor looked up at Arthur as if he was about to say something, then paused, looking for all the world as if he had just seen lightning strike in front of him.
"Draco Malfoy! Of course!" Alastor suddenly looked a good deal better, and far more satisfied with himself. The sudden realization of who he had seen with Lacy the other night came all at once.
"Arthur, when are you next goin' to have a meetin' with the lad? How do you arrange them? Never mind that, when you do have a meetin' with the lad, can you let me know so I can be there? No, that won't work either. Gotta do somethin' though..."
Alastor trailed off, momentarily lost in his own thoughts.
"We use coins, charmed to communicate with each other. We actually have a meeting set up for tomorrow evening, at Headquarters. I'm fine with you joining in on this one, Alastor. Can you be there around 8?"
Alastor paused, and looked directly at Arthur, a look of accusation crossing his face.
"Draco Malfoy knows about Headquarters? Where it is, how to get there? I think ye'd better explain that, lad. As to the meeting, I will definitely be there. I think we'll need to discuss a new Headquarters at the meeting on Thursday as well."
Alastor sighed, "Fer ye and me both, lad. Alright, we already knew that Grimmauld Place was compromised, so we've lost nothing there. Ye haven't told him anything, so no problems there. As to the Transmitters, I have to say that destroyin' them is the wrong way to go. Slughorn I am not sure we can trust, but Chang and Finnigan seem reasonable targets, if we can know what is bein' transmitted. Either of ye have experience enchanting muggle tech?"
"I'll vouch for Horace, Alastor. Dum- He has no love for Voldemort, I assure you of that, and he is a capable ally, as long as we don't ask him to fight directly. A little misinformation is right up his alley."
Minerva straightened herself unnecessarily. "I'm afraid I know nothing about Muggle devices. That's more Arthur's department."
"That sounds like a fine idea, Arthur," Minerva said. "Excuse me for interrupting, but I think this is something you and Alastor should work out. Perhaps with the Malfoy boy tomorrow.
"I would like us to deal with Moonstone tonight. Whatever Malfoy's game is, Luca has been willingly caught up in it. More than that, he appears to have been planning quite a bit on his own. Fudge's murder has shaken him up. I think this may be our opportunity to court the gypsies.
"I think you should speak with him, Alastor, and see what he's been doing. It's a bit difficult to describe."
"I'm willin' to speak with the lad. Ye say it was his job to place this transmitter, but he's had a change o' heart because of the murder. I think I can work with that. I'll speak with him this evening if ye like."
"Could we possibly bring him into your office now?" Arthur asked. "If it's not a problem I'd also like to hear what has happened." Arthur had started thinking about his upcoming meeting with Draco, but pushed it to the back of his mind as the subject of Luca Moonstone came up.
"Arthur, I hope you're not offended, but I think the fewer people the better," Minerva said, looking slightly apologetic. "The boys on edge already. I don't want him feel cornered. Besides I think it's better if we don't confirm your involvement with the Order to him just yet. Actually, I'd like you to have a good look at computer lab before you leave. Make sure everythings still in order and give the impression that that was the reason for your visit."
Arthur leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "So far, Draco has provided us with useable information, mainly telling us of the transmitter that was with Neville.
