I had been finishing things up at the office. The boring work, the filing of papers from the day's events. Arrests. Assaults. The numbers. Everything. I hated this bit of being an Auror, the sitting at the desks and doing the busy work until the clock ran out. I always preferred to be out there. Doing things. However, in any case, the day was done, and the last I heard from Alice was she was visiting the grocery store to pick up a few things. I was eager to get back, to get home.

Just as I had filed the last paper away, sending a memo to rest on Moody's desk, alerting him that I had finished for the day, I heard a small humming coming through the office.

And then, a little hummingbird itself, zooming about my body and around me and every part of the office.

Help, it said. And I froze ( ... )

At least Frank was coming. I knew he would come. Why wasn't he here yet? It had been seconds, but I could see the malice in their eyes. Their faces were obscured by hoods. I didn't know if they were Death Eaters or not. It was getting darker, their masks weren't evident. Perhaps they'd just been trying to blend in.

Where was Frank?

I felt myself boxed in, and I struggled as one man tried to grasp me by the arms. I was not in any shape for this kind of confrontation. If I had been sure of my magic, I would have hexed them all to oblivion straight off. To be honest, I wanted to try it, hoping it would backfire tragically killing them all. What a shame.

There was a voice though. "FRANK," I yelled, hoping desperately it would be him. I lashed out, struggling to get my arms free, to keep the man holding me, the men around me, anything, anything at all. I felt so helpless. My wand had fallen out of my grasp. Merlin, I was an auror, and this was the best I could do?

I heard her voice and a pang of terror broke through me. Alice. Alice. Oh, god. I ran more, my hand already reaching for my wand, when I turned the corner and saw them. Alice, with bags of groceries in her arm, and a group of men with hoods surrounding her. My blood boiled. Who would do that to an innocent, (presumably) unarmed woman? In broad daylight, too!

"Excuse me," I said with a firm voice, rushing up to the group, my hand stalling near my wand. The group turned towards me, and from the reflection from the sun, I could see their faces. Kids, they were just kids. Harassing my wife, touching her. "Now you let go, and go on home. Go play with your friends and leave innocent women alone."

My hand was still at my wand as the hooded kid let Alice's arm go. They didn't stand back, though. They wouldn't stand down, and neither would I.

As soon as I heard Frank's voice relief washed through me. He was finally here, and the others didn't look so pleased with themselves anymore. In fact, I could sense a certain tension between them. Now that the odds weren't so far in their favour they didn't seem too keen on the thing.

With my arms free, I was able to wrench away, though the man tried to grab me before I could make my escape. I may have been pregnant, but I could still move, and he was too shocked to get me just then. I ran to Frank's side, staring longingly at my wand that had been dropped on the ground. I felt so completely helpless, I hated it with every fiber of my being.

The man that seemed to be leading them turned towards Frank, doing away with pretenses and raising his wand.

(( Ahem. To finish. Frank stunned the horrible blokes and took them to the Ministry to be arrested. The end. ))
