started taking class with wendy and her husband scott teaching. its only in their hands that i trust. i'm sure its because she's a piece of home. her brother and mother teach on sutter and at the art institue who hooked me up with wendy's class when i came down.
its been two years since i've seen her and she welcomed with me open arms. when i was in her class two years ago, i ended up dropping out because playing a suicidal struggling young writer hit a bit too close to home. wendy understood.
so tonight i played an incredibly desperate coked out comedian who struggles with his comic partner over whether or not to sign a 7 yr. contract with a very iffy entertainment"manager".
ripped the stage in half tonight.
i think what most real actors settle with understanding, is that they hope, after all the projects shot of you holding a shoe, or running around in cheetah print underwear, or senselessly beating up fraternity pledges, there are just a few instances in your career where u can make people see themselves in the characters you play. and learn from them. hope that people learn from watching you go through something that could otherwise be avoided.
there's a reason why actors are the biggest celebrities. there's a reason they're the most celebrated.
not everyone likes to read. not everyone likes sports, or is interested in politics, or philosophy or psychology or whatever. but most people like movies. i don't mean to downplay other things, but i love the power of my art.
i'm finally starting to realize the nobility of acting. i used to get down on myself for doing extra work or stupid fuckin projects that don't mean anything to anyone but then i look at the careers of many prominent actors, and most of their movies aren't much to be remembered. but there's a couple projects that really matter. that have a real message. maybe thats all an actor can hope for. just a few moments. a few moments where the work really matters to the rest of the world.
i hope i have a few for myself. and if u look at it that way, an actor is pretty modest.
