"I don't know how many of you read AMNY or Metro, but yesterday there was a cover article about a Mayor's Alliance/ASPCA initiative to rescue animals and take them from city shelters to no-kill shelters. This initiative is finding itself woefully underfunded this year due to the skyrocketing gas prices (they'd budgeted $15,000 for fuel and find that it's now perhaps a third of what they need) and this lack of funds may prohibit them from rescuing animals, leaving them to be euthanized after 72 hours in the city shelters. A foundation, after reading the article, sent a check for $10,000 to the initiative and is challenging New Yorkers to match it by July 31st. I say that we can do better. I know we're all kinda broke-- but in this particular case, $10 or $20 really does help, because it helps pay the cost of fuel to rescue these animals. We can't all go to the shelters and adopt more pets now, sadly, but we can fork over the equivalent of a couple of beers or a pack of smokes to help these guys.
The URL for donations is www.aspca.org/alliance."
I sent them $10 and it'd be great if you guys would send something too. Even $5 would be nice.
