Rant against racist chick flicks (aka: why the hell is Jennifer Lopez white in Back Up Plan?)

I’m going to use the R word. Yes, that freakin’ R word; a distant cousin of the race card. If there was ever a way to make mainstream America roll their eyes at you it’s by pointing out a very obvious truth: Hollywood seems to hate latinos. There, I said it.

Clearly, I’m being dramatic with my statement but let me elaborate.

YES! This is practically the gist of what I was going to say. I'd also like to add that as she seems to use the color card only to broaden the audience she could profit from, that I know of she's always seemed really consumed in her own affairs. This self absorption, though warranted to any celebrity, looks especially bad when her now husband has always seemed so very involved in foundations in Puerto Rico (hospitals and orphanages that i can recall) and in empowering the Latino community here in the USA.

This is where I find Jennifer Lopez a closet Alba case. I mean it's like she 'puts up with' being Latina because she can't help it (the way she looks gives it away) and it's something she has never fully addressed. I can accept being completely assimilated to American culture, so much so that she would speak no Spanish or eat 'ethnic' food but she's never said so much (or that I recall) so it just makes her look like a hypocrite to me.

(ESPECIALLY!!! because if i have it right, Alba is open about knowing no Spanish as her dad or something grew up dismissing his Latin Culture because for one reason or another he claimed to have been teased and wanted to socialize normally. While in their own right, Alba only takes the name because she was born with it--and does not associate herself with the Latin American community.) Lopez seems like this low-key, and probably only associated with other brown people because of her NOW husband.

(i hope this made sense)
