Ironettes a.k.a Sexy Iron Man Dancers
Yep, I've started working on another costume...Blah. I just can't help myself! I looved the Ironettes from the moment I first saw the Iron Man 2 trailer. I also knew that DragonCon would have them in spades. Which is why I want to make one. Awesome group photos!
I'm going to be drafting the pattern in between my Uhura build.
Here's my game plan so far:
I got swatches from Distinctive Fabric for their metallic spandex in red and gold here. I don't know if this is what other people have been using or not, but it's great being 60" wide and a 4 way stretch. The colors are right on as far as I can tell. I've heard that you can get the same fabric cheaper on other sites, but $10/yd. isn't bad when the fabric is that wide.
I'm going to draft the pattern. Then I'll get some cheap lycra to mock it up in to get the right fit.
I'm going to cast the buckle from a poly resin mixed with metallic powder. This is my initial game plan and will be my first attempt...should be a lot of fun. I've been wanting to do this for awhile.
The boots are the troublesome part for me. I want to add the LEDs in the bottom of the boots and have the boot color match the fabric. I'm not sure if the answer is to paint or cover the boots yet. I'm going to get some advice on that before I buy the boots. I also haven't found LEDs that are thin enough for the boot soles.
Thats as far as I've gotten for now...Back to Lt. Uhura...:)
