The book as well reminded me of this quotation from Marie Curie, where she said that the scientist should regard science not as mechanical but as wondrous, that science should inspire delight as well as awe.
Madeleine L'Engle was certainly one of the biggest influences on me as a young reader. I loved loved loved her books and would spend hours composing letters to L'Engle about how much her books meant to me. (I never sent any of them. But luckily did get to meet her when I was in college and talk with her.) She was a huge influence on my relationship with science and why I always am looking for that sense of wonder when out and about exploring the world around us.
