I am so sad to hear this! I first learned of Elizabeth Peters and her amazing books through you back in 1999 and have been attempting to collect all her Amelia Peabody and Vicky Bliss books since. I adore her writing and the way she incorporated her love of archeology and history into all her various series, blending her vast knowledge with amazing storytelling.
The first Elizabeth Peters book I read was actually "Die for Love", which I read before I attended my first RWA conference. Her descriptions of a writer's conference, sans murder and mayhem, was uncanny. Then I dived into the world of Amelia and Emerson and fell in love with the adventure of Victorian expeditions to the land of the Pharohs. Whenever I needed something different to read, there was always an Elizabeth Peters or Barbarah Michaels novel to read.
She will be very missed and I am saddened that there will be no more new books to await with eagerness, though I am glad I still have plenty of her backlist to keep me going for some time to come.
Oh did I introduce you to her? I remember being in that used book store with you when I visited you one time and you finding some of her books to purchase. It was unusual because I hardly ever see her books at ubs or book fairs. I guess people hold onto them! We are lucky that there are so many of her books to enjoy. I guess you could fill a whole year up just reading a book of hers a week!
I always wished there were more of the Vicky Bliss books. I should re-read them now, it's been long enough that I have forgotten most of the details. :-)
I was a bit disappointed with the last Vicky Bliss book, The Laughter of Dead Kings. I think it might have been better to leave it with Last Train to Memphis. But maybe I'll feel differently if I do a reread. But its almost like she knew because she wrote that last Vicky Bliss then went back and wrote that last Amelia Peabody and then just stopped writing.

Awww, that is a shame. I haven't read one if her books lately, buy have always enjoyed them.
You and I have similar tastes in her books, too.
