Djembe/Seagull

One of the best weekends ever, with djembe master Mohamed Bangoura and the effervescent Ziggy Bey Jan teaching Sabar (drumming using hand and one stick) from Senegal. Tremendous is the only word.

Last weekend four days in Melbourne, packed with family commitments, dinner with C&J in their beautiful replica Fitzgerald St home, overnight with I&S in Brunswick. I'm no longer afraid of their Diggy dear parrot:) as it flies around with the two other budgies. More birds, Sunday evening Chekhov's The Seagull. Not my favourite play at all, would have loved to have seen Shakespeare, but did enjoy Ian McKellen and the subtly changing palette of colour on stage. The young student actor next to me felt that the words were breathy, and that the acting was outstanding. I thought it was a heavy Eastern European play, but an experience.
