Printmaking

Nov 20, 2010 10:17

This post is for my sister who's been nagging me about printmaking work and i've been too lazy to explain but here i am! We did two different types of printing last year and it was just basic printing, nothing big but i love love printing. Out of the three visual arts course we did which was printing, painting and sculpture, printing was definitely my favourite. I don't have to be precise and i can be messy with what i do.

The first one i did was a linocut print, it's the same technique we used to do back in high school and it involves cutting, printing, pressing, inking and repeating the whole process until it's well cut. This technique is like woodcut but instead of using wood, we used linoleum. Which is easier to carved out. Artists such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Irving Amen, Irena Sibley(Australian) has used linocut in their work.

I completely forgot the process of the second printing (i'll get around to you if i do find out)but it was rather complicated, it involves using three different plates and covering with this special liquid, i think it was called Shellac. Anyways you should ask your teacher :)

Here are some printmaking artists that i really like: Kathe Kollwitz(duh), Nomi Silverman, Abigail Hansen, Heather Shimmen and Anita Klein.

El Guincho - Bombay (Watch the video, it's bizarre)
