on the day you were born
the men all rejoiced
and the children & women all rushed
to see your brilliance
white linen & checkered gingham wave about
in the tropic breeze
honeysuckle & green green grass overpower the senses
the sun soaks in and the crowds cry tears of ecstasy
gathered around
they come running from all directions
just to get a glimpse
reaching for your limbs, clawing, and tearing at you
yearning for just a little piece
of something they will never get the chance to have
i waited til the crowd resigned
and slowly, i arose
gathering you up in my arms i took you away from them
