Commitment
Commitment can mean a hell of a lot of things, but in the end it always come down to one - trust. Trust that whoever it is will fufill their end of the deal in love or friendship or business or whatever. It doesn't matter who it is, just as long as you believe they will come through in the end. It can even be yourself. When you make a commitment, you're saying that you can be relied upon.
I'd like to believe in commitment, and maybe it might even work for some people. In my experience, it never works out especially when it comes to relationships.
