Recovering from the Trip

Made it back from New York in one piece. Outside of two or three instances ... the trip was pretty much one mishap after another.

We ended up on the highway somehow on our way to the train station. Then I figured out the departure date of our tickets were wrong so we got them changed. The train left an hour late and arrived three hours late. At that point we didn't have any time for a nice sit down dinner so we ate fast and got to the theater.

We got to the show and had a blast. I was so happy to find all the starring players were there ... I think I would have been a bit let down if someone was missing. I was very empressed with the supporting cast, everyone was really funny. Mathew Broderick, whom I've never been a big fan of was great. He made a terrific Felix. He was incredibly obnoxious, but yet he was totally sweet and forgivable. He was even funnier then Nathan Lane at some points. He really won me over in a way I didn't expect. Nathan was wonderful, He has a great sence of timing and delivery. I love him in everything he does. It was such a treat to see him live. I don't know why I feel this way, it might just be the way the play is written, but I thought he was better in the second half. I made the trip all the was to see him and I wasn't disappointed a bit.

Andrew and I rushed the stage door after the show. It was nice for five minutes, then it rained really hard for five minutes then it was nice again. Poor Andrew was soaking wet, I was standing right next to the theater so I got to position my such that I was mostly safe from the rain. Mike Starr was the first to come out. He was great. He came out in the rain to sign autographs, smiling and incredibly friendly. He walked over to Andrew and I first. Andrew remembered him from Ed Wood and mentioned that and he was so nice to us after that. He chatted with us, asked us our names, asked us where we were from (we told him Buffalo and right away he made reference to North Tonawanda and Anchor Bar Wings so he must have been to our area or knew someone here or both), made a bit of conversation with us, which he really didn't do for anyone else. Even when he was walking around siging things he would make a joke and then sort of look back at us to make sure we were still grinning. He was so cool, unlike any time I've stood in line for an autograph, he really made you feel like even for a moment that you were meeting him. I really can say enough good things about the man. Olivia d'Abo came out next, she was beautiful and sweet and so fun. I wish I had more to say to her, but I get quiet around celebs in general. She was so sweet, she signed every paper and took every photo. She seemed happy to do it too, like Mike, and fans notice those sort of things. Broderick was the last to come out. He was really distant and quiet. Perhaps he was in another place, he looked really tired. He signed my play bill (and Andrew's also) and Andrew stuck out his hand for a shake and there was an instant were they just looked at each other and I though maybe he was just gonna walk away, but he did shake Andrew's hand. I dont think he said more then thee words to the fans outside, but he atleast came out and it was nice for him to do so even if he didnt really want to. Mr. Lane seemed to escape through a different door. I think I knew when and I could have probably figured out where (I saw one of the door men leave with an umbrella, I bet if I followed him I would have found Nathan) but, If he didn't want to come out and see the people who wanted to see him, then he must have his reasons and I can respect that (though I can sit here and say I wasn't a bit sad because of it).

After that we went back to the pub I had my first Guinness. We had some chow and I had another Guinness. We went looking for a hotel, but they were so much more expencive then I anticipated and we didn't have the cash. So we went to the train station, I fell asleep on the ground (which everyone should do once ... it makes you appreicate your beds at home so much more), but I don't think Andrew ever got comfortable enough to sleep. We managed eventually get our tickets home changed again for an earlier time, we had breakfast, we waited some more and then came home. While we were on our way home I found out my mother and stepfather's car got hit by a semi. My mother was delerious, but my stepdad told me they were ok. There was about a 20 minute period between getting the message from my sister and getting a hold of Tim (stepdad) that I was pretty worried.

Thats about all. I'm probably gonna try catch another nap and x-men 3 before I go to work at 11.
