Birth Announcement
My daughter's dog, Bear, gave birth to five beautiful puppies last night. Bear is some sort of "something" Bear Dog, and Jason, my daughter's other dog and the puppy's father, is a lab. Both Bear and Jason are almost white - Bear having some cream colored spots on her. There were five pippies total - three and two boys. The funny thing is that the biggest puppy - also born first - looks like it will be as large as the father. The second born - a girl - is the darker brown like the mother's more popular colors and was considerably smaller than the first. The third born (Tiny) - another boy - has the exact coloration of the father (almost white) and is the smallest of the litter. The fourth to be born was another girl with markings and coloration almost identical to the first female. She is also rather small. The last to be born is a yellow colored female. Again, this puppy is quite small. We are thinking that 4 out of the 5 puppies are going to be built like the mother and the one will be large like the father.
This was Bear's very first (and only) litter of puppies. She came through it quite fine, and her instinct kicked in. She did, however, give birth to the first one in the dog house outside. She let out a yelp near my daughter's bedroom window at which time she asked if she should check on Bear and I responded positively. My daughter opened the window and Bear bolted inside. She gave birth to the second one on the kitchen floor on her way to my daughter's room. We brought her the second puppy and my daughter went out to search for any others to be guided to the dog house by Jason (the father).
Bear made her bed on my daughter's bed where we worked towels and such underneath her. The third puppy was slow coming and moore difficult to birth. The fourth followed shortly afterwards with ease. The final puppy was born about twenty minutes later (at about 1:30 am).
Oh, and Bear began giving birth to the puppies at about 8:30 pm.
So, puppies it is!! Five of the little boogers!! Just thought I would share.
