© warning to all who are about to read this : This is strictly my opinion on a very controversial topic. If you are devoutly christian I doubt you will agree with most of my reasoning. So stop here because I don't want to be nagged about something that I have decided to go on and write about. Basically.. deal with it. Anyone who is closeminded may as well stop here too because this will more than likely go way over your head.
and here we go...
i debated on which topic to write on- my rediscovery of the amazingness of A Perfect Circle or the involuntary dizziness in my brain on the thoughts of opinion, religion, and the unknown. That's been a hot topic lately, and my music will always be there to write about. Andy and I began this conversation and debate a few days ago, starting with my APC revelation to the song "Judith". Look up the lyrics and you'll see exactly what sparked my interest in this ever-so juxtaposed topic. This goes farther than religion, and it goes farther than the mind. So brace yourself.
Religion.
I believe that religion is simply put as a crutch for those who need the confidence that they are not alone in the world and that there is a need for an explanation. Every single religion is based on matters of opinion. To me, the bible is the best novel in the world. Please note that I said novel. I do not believe it is the "word of God". I believe that the morals and ethics that it teaches should be followed ( within reason) and the world would be a better place if we all did just that.
There is a warped sense to religion now. Many faiths press their religion onto people and scare them into believing that they are right and everyone else is wrong. Not only does Christianity come from Judaism and not only was their savior jewish, but most of the ethics and morals taught are the same. Yet many branches off of Christianity are anti semitic. Too many times have I heard... " If you don't believe in what we believe you are going to hell". (more on heaven and hell later) God did not create christianity. The followers of RABBI JOSEPH (aka Jesus, later named by the apostles) did. We are now devouring this earth because of wars and disagreements, and most is based around belief and religion. Muslims and Jews have constantly been at each other's throats because they can't share the same holy land together and live in peace because their God has a different name ( apparently Adonai/Allah have completely different codes for living)(which they dont, by the way.) This leads into what is "right" and what is "wrong", which goes into opinion. Oh this is the fun part.
Opinion.
There is no right. You cannot tell me "Hitler was wrong", because in his mind, he was. And just because most people do believe he was wrong, we can't state that for a fact because there are still people who believe it's true. Every aspect of life is debatable. Whether the penny be heads or tails or 1+1=2, there will be someone who will always debate it. And if they truly think that they are right, then who are we to say that it's wrong? We are taught what is ethically and morally right according to society's standards and according to our upbringing. Islamic men are legally allowed to beat their women because it's "right" in their religion and in their culture. Even though the majority of the world thinks that is completely wrong, it doesn't make it wrong. Religion is an opinion. And because nothing actually is set in stone about what is right and what is wrong then heaven and hell cannot exist.
Heaven and Hell.
I have more than one point of view on this one. "Heaven" is a title; nothing more, nothing less. As is "Hell". Basically, christianity teaches that if you live a righteous life (according to someone else's opinion on what is right and what is wrong) then you get to be happy. Again.. There is no right. So how can there be two places that differentiate? But I admit, the thought of just dying and being buried with worms and thats the end of it theres nothing past that really scares me. So to calm my fears I have based an opinion on what the afterlife will be for me.
Because of all the unexplained things out there.. such as Andy saying to me .. "They say the universe is expanding.. expanding into what?" oh that has been driving me insane for hours since he told me that. And chances are I will still be stuck on it 20 years from now. There is no giant wall saying "Universe stops here" being knocked down to make room for another galaxy. And if this is true, then why is the space it is expanding into not considered the universe? There must be more toAfter I have served my life here on earth, I imagine what is in store for me is what I believe it should be. If i devoutly believe that I'm supposed to be in a good place with the answers that I have been searching for and the things I couldn't have, then that is what my new life will be life. It truly terrifies me to think that all i will be is an epitaph and earth fertilizer. I know my life will be much more worthy than that.
*mister jorge, there is more to it than this but this is what i have so far.
